It has been a while since I blogged and I had enough keeping me away from it. It has been years since I left Sri Lanka, the beautiful island in the Indian Ocean and my return has been refreshing. The tranquil getaways into the green forests and ancient villages has permeated much sense into my thinking. For years I have attempted to achieve something I always wanted - a ranch in a truly serene environment. The first phase of it was realized with the lovely desert ranches I had in the Middle East and now it is time to do it all in my own country.
The first thing that comes to mind when one compares the two experiences are the water and heat factors. Water is scare on the surface around my ranch in Sharjah while there are plenty of streams, lakes and ancient tanks in the area I am looking at currently. Next is the heat factor; it sure is a relief from the brain-baking heat. With plenty of tall trees (teak, mahogany...the list is endless..) and rich vegetation, one is sure to be biased when looking at a similar project in the desert. Sri Lanka is home to a rich variety of wildlife and the excitement has kept our friends in anticipation of the launch of our ecotourism project.
Soil tests, water and air tests - all are necessary to truly prove your sincerity in an ecotourism project and I am leaving no stone unturned to ensure a positive impact to the environment and local communities. This has kept me occupied with much reading. One learns and this never seems to end and I believe in a knowledge empowered businesses model.
Now that I am back blogging, expect more on my ecotourism and integrated farming initiative.
